Bailey Ann is an older lady, 13 years, looking for a long-term foster or final forever home. She came from a great home that took good care of her, but sadly, her owner passed. Miss Bailey has bad hips and knees, thus she needs assistance getting up, getting around and with her balance (Pilates?!), but other than that she’s full of life, love and spirit.  She is very friendly and gets along with other dogs. If you're looking for a companion for a few short years, a wise companion with a calm disposition and lots of love in her heart, please consider Miss Bailey!

Each week will discuss a key topic that I find most of my health coaching clients have concerns about! 

Week 1   Stress Management:  In this module, we will explore and understand what stress is and what happens in the body when stress occurs. Understand how and why we each handle stress differently.  Finally we will learn how to combat stress naturally and get better sleep.

Week 4   Setting and Reaching Our Goals:  In this module, we will put everything we learned into concrete ways to set realistic goals, ways to stay on track and be accountable and understanding your "why"  to help encourage you to in reaching your goals.

4 Lunchtime workshops that will knock your bad food habits to the curb! 

Session 1: Smoothies and  Glorious Greens.  Learn how to make delicious green smoothies to integrate into a healthy eating plan, along with recipes, smoothie tasting and ideas to incorporate more green veggies and fruit into our diet.  Meets at noon on October 23rd. 

Session 2: Great Grains.  Learn about various grains, gluten and gluten-free eating.  You will receive a new grain to try at home and a great grain recipe to taste, along with recipes and ideas to incorporate healthy grains into your diet.  Meets at noon on November 6th.  

Session 3:  Proteins. Learn about eating right for your blood type, different sources of protein; vegan, vegetarian and paleo ways of eating and taste a simple and easy dish you can prepare at home. You will receive beans to try out, with recipes for  healthy meals, that fit into any lifestyle.  Meets at noon on November 20th

Session 4:  Cravings and Sugar Blues. Learn about cravings, what they mean, how to deconstruct them and how to stop them in their tracks.  We will also discuss sugar, ways to avoid it and sample a tasty paleo inspire grain free and low sugar cakie that’s out of this world. Meets at noon on December 4th.

Free Tickets to the Home and Garden Show

37196 Steve has tickets at the front desk for the Chaffee County Home and Garden show, April 20th and 21st, at the Fairgrounds.  This show put on by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Salida is free with a ticket and is an opportunity for people from Chaffee County, Fremont County, and Saguache County to learn about the high-quality businesses in our region

The Chaffee Home and Garden Show is an event created by the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club to benefit the community.  Every bit of work to put on this event was done by volunteers.

All proceeds will go to charity.

The ticket also allows you a chance for a free prize in a drawing and with you stub, you can get a free beverage or desert, through the end of the year at Country Bounty Restaurant on Highway 50.  The Country Bounty is the home of our local Rotary Club, which meets there every Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30.  If you are interested in what the Rotary Club does, show up for a meeting.  No reservations required.

Update on Women's Self-Defense and Adult Ballet Classes

Sonia wanted to let you know that the self-defense class will starting this summer.  The Instructor Practicing Tai Chigentleman that will do the class is out of the country until June.  The class will be by donation and we will let you as we firm up the details.  As far as an adult ballet class Kyanne is teaching some classes at the Salida Dance Studio, so keep an eye out for one on their schedule.  She will let us know when they add an adult class and we will pass that along to those interested.

Today is the Day!

The program will be 90 minutes 2 times per month.  I am looking at starting two different groups, one on a weeknight, the other on Saturday morning.  I am currently working on dates and the locations.  My office can handle about 5 to 7 people.  If there are more, we can do them at The Pilates Studio. For  now I have created a form you can fill out and let me know if evenings or a weekend would be better for you, then with those numbers I can work on times and scheduling.

The cost will be $195 for the 3 month program.  You can pay in full, I will offer $20 off for a full payment or monthly at $65 per month.  I am so excited to be offering this transformational program and look forward to sharing, learning and growing with everyone through this process.  The great part is I usually learn as much as you do!  As I said this is level I, level II will come out later this year and will delve deeper into the topics we cover in the level I!

Thursday Night Movie Night, The Dhamma Brothers!

The Pilates Studio, along with JD Longwell are excited to have another movie night, on Thursday, November 15 th at 7:00pm.  The Dhamma Brothers presents a story of east meeting west in the deep south. An overcrowded, violent maximum-security prison, the end of the line in Alabama's prison system, is dramatically changed by the influence of an ancient meditation program. Behind high security towers and a double row of barbed wire and electrical fence live over 1,500 prisoners, many of whom will never again know life in the outside world. But for some of these men, a spark is ignited when it becomes the first maximum-security prison in North America to hold an extended Vipassana retreat, an emotionally and physically demanding program of silent meditation lasting ten days and requiring 100 hours of meditation. The Dhamma Brothers tells a dramatic tale of human potential and transformation as it closely follows and documents the stories of the prison inmates at Donaldson Correctional Facility as they enter into this arduous and intensive program. This film has the power to dismantle stereotypes about men behind prison bars.

Lisa has been performing marketing and some administrative roles at The Pilates Studio since July of 2011.   She created a new website and blog for the studio and has streamlined their online marketing and newsletter/email programs.  She continues to blog on Pilates, wellness, nutrition and general information from the Studio on the studio website and keep the website up to date.   Lisa moved to Salida two years ago, after living in Breckenridge for almost thirty years.  After she meet her partner, Cutler, who lived in Crested Butte, they decided to meet in the middle in a valley and town they feel in love with.  Lisa was a real estate broker for most of those 30 years and was the managing broker and owner of one of Breckenridge's premier real estate companies.  Her knowledge and background in business, training, motivating, sales and marketing has helped her turn her passion for food and wellness into a business.  Lisa has been attending the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City to learn about nutrition, wellness and health, and is now launching her nutritional wellness and health coaching business, Transformational Living and Wellness.  As part of her business, she has partnered with The Pilates Studio to offer discounts to Pilates Studio clients on her programs.  Lisa will also be hosting free workshops from time to time at the studio and maybe a Wellness Happy Hour or two.  Lisa believes that you can't find wellness in your life without taking into consideration all those things that feed us, not just food, but relationships, spirituality, career, and physical activity. Successful Movie Night

  We would like to thank JD Longwell for spearheading our first Movie Night.  We had a nice turnout and everyone was moved by the movie, May I Be Frank!  The inspiration for  movie night to is bring independent movies to the community, not just our Pilates community.  We  even had some folks come up from New Mexico to see the movie!  Our goal would be to bring movies, that inspire, make you think and maybe even motivate you to create changes in your life or the lives of others.  If you have any suggestions on movies that would fit this mould, let us know.  Also, let us know if Thursday's are good nights for you.  We will let you know when our next movie is scheduled and remember see you at the movies!

Busy Week at The Pilates Studio

With the change of the season and in the air, there is a lot going on this week at The Pilates Studio! 

Veggies and Canned Goods - Sonia will be bringing in jams and canned goods, this week and next!  Come in and check out some of your favorites, blueberry and cherry and try a new ones like plum Grand Marnier.  She also has lots of veggies available.  Please notify her on our email salidapilatesstudio@gmail.com to place your order.  She has chard, beets or beet greens (golden, chioggia, detroit red), kale, vidalia onions, leeks or potatoes (yukon gold, russets and fingerlings).  Talk about fresh picked right out of the garden, just for you!

Three new classes added this week-  Wednesday we start off with a Spinlates at 7:00pm. Come join us for 30 minutes of indoor cycling followed by 30 minutes of Pilates mat work to strengthen your core and perfect your balance.  Call ahead to reserve a bike! Out two new Saturday classes start this week.  Start your day off at 8:30 am with a cycle class, to better you cardiovascular endurance and you lose weight!  Expect to be challenged with five different zones, including Endurance, Strength, Race Day, Interval and Recovery rides.  Next up is the Ball and Bosu class at 9:30 am. This class will focus on the use of the Swiss Ball and Bosu to achieve optimal balance and stability while toning problem area’s these two wonderful pieces of equipment are perfect for strengthening the legs, lower back, glutes and core.  Really want a challenge stay for both.  We are offering a 4 time punch pass for $40 or each class for $12. 

Thursday Night Movie Night and our first movie will be May I Be Frank!  Our movie starts at 7:00pm and it is totally FREE!  Come witness Frank's amazing journey to find health and love again in his life!

About the Film:

Frank Ferrante is a 54 year old Sicilian from Brooklyn living in San Francisco.  A lover of life, great food, beautiful women and a good laugh, Frank is also a drug addict, morbidly obese, pre-diabetic, and fighting Hepatitis C. He’s estranged from his daughter, single, and struggling with depression. Frank knows that life can be better than this, and is looking for a way out.

May I Be Frank documents the transformation of Frank Ferrante’s life. He unknowingly stumbles into a local restaurant in San Francisco, Café Gratitude, a raw, organic and vegan café. As he becomes friends with the staff, he keeps returning to the café where he feels welcomed and free from his collapsing personal life. On one such visit, Frank is asked by Ryland, one of the servers, “What is one thing you want to do before you die?” Frank replies “I want to fall in love one more time, but no one will love me looking the way I do.”

Inspired by the possibility of helping Frank, Ryland invites him to come into the café everyday for the next month. Armed with a camera and a wide open heart, Ryland soon enrolls his brother Cary, and Conor, his best friend, to participate in supporting Frank’s transformation. The final agreement is made that for the next 42 days, Frank will turn his life over to three twenty-something young men committed to his healing and prepared to coach him physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Frank will eat only raw food, practice gratitude, visit local holistic practitioners, and get a weekly colonic.  Ryland, Conor, and Cary get to support and witness Frank’s miraculous transformation.  Frank gets a new body, a clearer mind, and most importantly, a soaring spirit.

Over those 42 days, the four men go on the ride of their lives.  Setting out to help Frank lose weight and get healthy, no one anticipated the profound impact this journey would have on the lives of countless others.  Through Frank’s story of love, redemption, and transformation, the viewers witness the power of change for themselves and the world.  May I Be Frank documents the essence of the human condition and what it truly means to fall in love again.

Friday Hatha Yoga Class Added

Taught in the Viniyoga tradition, this class will focus on more intermediate postures and begin to explore other elements of Yoga, such as breathing exercises and mediation.  Because Viniyoga is taught in adaptive steps, students may practice at the level that meets their individual needs.  Intended for students with a working knowledge of basics who are interested in deepening their experience of Yoga.
